How to Estimate Transport for an Auction Vehicle
A route-based framework for comparing auction delivery, carrier quotes, and conservative transport estimates without silently replacing one source with another.
Use the physical auction facility
Calculate from the exact yard or branch address to the delivery address. A city label can point to a facility many miles away, so the card should show a clear from-to route and road mileage.
Price the vehicle condition
A normal running sedan on a shared open carrier is different from a vehicle that does not roll, steer, or brake. Missing wheels, suspension damage, oversized dimensions, forklift loading, and expedited pickup can materially change the quote.
Compare alternatives instead of overwriting them
An auction delivery quote, a route estimate, a historical lane estimate, and a live carrier quote can all be valid under different assumptions. Display them side by side with destination, included charges, timestamp, and expiration.
The selected option should become the transport value used by every scenario and profitability calculation.
Show a likely range
When no live quote exists, show an expected amount and a likely range. Explain the route miles, lane rate, minimum charge, condition surcharge, tolls, pickup coordination, delivery constraints, and contingency included in the estimate.
